Safe Computing

Safe computing is a thing that people admire when they use computer especially if they are doing their work with it. Viruses, disk crashes, system bombs and miscellaneous disasters can destroy your work, your peace of mind and possibly your system. Fortunately, you can protect your computer, your software and data from most hazards.

  • Share with care – A computer virus is contiguous that spread when it comes in contact with a compatible file or disk. To protect your data, keep your disk to yourself and don’t borrow disks from others. If you have to share your disk, make sure you scan it first.
  • Beware of email bearing gifts – many viruses hide in attachment to email message. Do not open email attachments, especially from sender you don’t recognize; just throw them away.
  • Handle freeware and shareware with care – some viruses enter system in Trojan horse shareware and freeware program. You must scan attached files before opening them.
  • Don’t pirate software – Even commercial program can be infected with viruses. Shrink-wrapped, virgin software is much likely to be infected with virus.
  • Disinfect regularly - Virus protection programs are available for all kind of system, often for free. Use up to date virus protection software regularly.
  • Treat your removable disk as if they contained something important - Keeps the away from liquids, dust, pets and especially magnet.
  • Take your passwords seriously – choose password that is not easily guessable. You also can change your password occasionally.
  • If it is important back it up – regularly make backup copies of every important file on different disk than the original.
  • Prepare for the worst – even if you take every precaution, things can still go wrong. Make sure you are not completely dependent on the computer for really important things.
