Introduction to E-Learning

E-learning is one of the compulsory subjects that I have to take on semester five (5) to complete my diploma in English communication. My first impression about this subject is that we will learn about how to conduct through online. In reality, E learning is a subject that has wide scope where we actually explore about the world of internet. It is really enjoyable subject for me where I can learn more about things that we do not know about its existent or how it functions on internet. For example, before this I only use bookmark on the Mozilla Firefox toolbar that provided each time when I am online but now I know that I can use ‘Delicious’ which is one of the bookmark service that can arrange and classified our bookmark item in the most appropriate way.

The real definition of E-Learning is the use of processes and technologies to create, distribute, manage, and enable learning via an electronic network. Regarding to our course outline, E-learning synopsis is the sourcing and evaluating English language online resources relevant to business, management, science and information technology, including journals, information centers, libraries, government and community agencies, databases, chat groups, notice boards and forums; integrating resources to solve identified workplace problems; devising strategies for online learning; compilation of an individualized professional resources database. We are teaching by Mrs. Fara Ai’ni Bt Jamal. This subject has 3 credit hours where we have to attend classes (Monday and Thursday), complete assignments given (blog, website and presentation) and sit for final exam. By taking this course, we have the opportunity to have our lesson on computer lab that located on basement floor of our new academic block (we usually called the lab as underground room) which for me it is really cool place.

In addition, E-Learning is very unique course for me because our lecturer use several ways on class to teach us such as presentation, dialogue sessions using Facebook, chatting using LMS (Learning Management System) and search for rare item that we does not think about them before. By doing all these activities, we actually really applied the technology on our learning process by practice and experience them by our own. However, creating website is really challenging task to be completed for me. Although our lecturer has teach us on how to use Dreamweaver (software to design website) in a basic way, I still have to explore it by doing try and error process to ensure that all the pictures, texts and graphic that arrange are same with my sketch.

In conclusion, E-Learning is really leaves a deep impact on me especially regarding on my knowledge about internet world that full of rapid development from time to time. The skills that we learn from the course syllabus are really vital to ensure that students can apply the correct and sufficient way on handling the new technology in benefit purpose. Regarding to mu experience on taking E-Learning, I would to suggest some alteration in this course which is student should be more exposed on how to build a website using Dreamweaver because most of us does not know how to use this software because we do not have any experience before. In other side, I really hope that this course will be continually taught as one of Diploma in English Communication semester five (5) courses.
